John R. Curtis

John R. Curtis (* 10. May 1960 in Ogden , Utah ) is an American politician of the Republican Party . He has represented the state of Utah in the United States House of Representatives since 2017 .

Life

John R. Curtis was raised in Salt Lake City, the fourth of five children by Dee and Dawn Curtis . A devout Mormon , he was a young man in 1980 on a year-long missionary activity that took him to Taiwan .

After attending Skyline High School in Millcreek , he graduated from Brigham Young University in Utah. Here he graduated in business administration . In 2000 he became Chief Operating Officer (COO) at Action Target , a company that manufactures shooting ranges .

Curtis was a member of the Democratic Party from 2000 to 2006 . As such, he ran unsuccessfully for a seat in the Utah Senate in 2000 , and in 2007 for a seat in the Utah House of Representatives . In 2009, now a Republican, he ran for the office of Mayor of Provo - with success. In 2013 he was re-elected with around 87 percent of the vote. Most recently, he had an approval rating of over 90 percentage points.

Following the resignation of Congressman Jason Chaffetz in June 2017, Curtis announced his intention to run for his seat in the United States House of Representatives . He was elected to the mandate at the beginning of November 2017 with around 59 percent of the vote.

John R. Curtis has been married since 1982 and has six children with his wife Sue.
