James V. Hansen

James Vear Hansen (born August 14, 1932 in Salt Lake City , Utah , † November 14, 2018 in Farmington , Utah) was an American politician .

After graduating from East High School in Salt Lake City, Hansen studied at the University of Utah and received his Bachelor of Science degree in 1961 . From 1951 to 1955 he served in the United States Navy . He then worked as a real estate agent and insurance agent. From 1960 to 1972 Hansen was a member of Farmington City Council . He was then a member of the Utah House of Representatives from 1973 to 1980 , and from 1979 to 1980 he was the speaker of this Chamber of Representatives.

Hansen was elected as a Republican to Congress in 1980 and represented his home state in the US House of Representatives from January 3, 1981 to January 3, 2003 . In 2002 he decided not to run again. During his time as a member of parliament, he chaired the Committee on Standards of Official Conduct and the Committee on Resources .
