Christopher Douglas "Chris" Stewart (born July 15, 1960 in Logan , Utah ) is an American politician and author . He has represented the state of Utah in the US House of Representatives since 2013 .

Career

Chris Stewart grew up on a dairy farm in northern Utah. Until 1978 he attended Sky View High School . He later studied economics at Utah State University in Logan through 1984 . In the meantime he was missionary in Texas for the Mormon Church . Between 1984 and 1998 he served in the United States Air Force . He was used as a pilot and achieved the rank of major. In 1995 he set a world record for B-1 bombers by completing the fastest orbit around the world. After his military service, he worked in the private sector. Today he is Chairman of the Board of the Shipley Group , an environmental and energy consultancy. He also supports government anti-terrorism courses. Since the late 1990s he has also appeared as a writer. He wrote a total of 14 novels.

Politically, Stewart became a member of the Republican Party . In the 2012 congressional election he was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the second constituency of Utah , where he succeeded Democrat Jim Matheson , who moved to the fourth district, on January 3, 2013 . In the election he received 62 percent of the vote. After two re-elections so far in 2014 and 2016, he can continue to exercise his office today. His new legislative term runs until January 3, 2019 with the option of a further candidacy in 2018.
