William A. Dawson

William Adams Dawson (born November 5, 1903 in Layton , Utah , † November 7, 1981 in Salt Lake City , Utah) was an American politician.

Dawson studied law at the University of Utah . After graduating in 1926, he was admitted to the bar that year and began practicing in Salt Lake City. From 1926 to 1934, Dawson was a district attorney in Davis County . He then held the office of Mayor of Layton from 1935 to 1939 and was a member of the Utah Senate from 1940 to 1944 .

Dawson was elected as a Republican in the 80th Congress in 1946 and represented there from January 3, 1947 to January 3, 1949 the state of Utah in the House of Representatives of the United States . In the 1948 elections he was unable to defend his seat. Four years later, Dawson managed to be re-elected to the House of Representatives. This time he remained a member of parliament from January 3, 1953 to January 3, 1959 and only left Congress as a result of his defeat in the 1958 elections.

After his career in Washington, DC , he was Vice President of Zions First National Bank from 1959 to 1969 and spent his retirement in Salt Lake City. Dawson died there on November 7, 1981 and was buried in Kaysville Cemetery in Kaysville .
