Clarence Emir Allen (born September 8, 1852 in Erie County , Pennsylvania , † July 9, 1932 in Escondido , California ) was an American politician . Between 1896 and 1897 he represented the state of Utah in the US House of Representatives .

Early years

Clarence Allen attended the common schools and to 1877 the Western Reserve College , which then in Hudson ( Ohio was). In 1881 he moved to Salt Lake City , Utah Territory . There he worked until 1886 as a teacher at the Salt Lake Academy . Then he worked in the mining business.

Political career

Clarence Allen was initially a member of the Liberal Party , which turned against church representatives in political office in Utah. Allen was elected to the Territorial House of Representatives in 1888, 1890, and 1894. Between 1890 and 1893 he was a council clerk ( County Clerk ) in Salt Lake County . At that time he was also studying law. After his admission to the bar in 1893, he began practicing this profession in Salt Lake City. In 1892 he ran unsuccessfully as a Liberal candidate for the office of Congress Delegate. In the same year he joined the Republican Party , whose Republican National Conventions he attended in 1892 and 1896 as a delegate.

After Utah joined the United States as a new state, Allen was elected as his new party's candidate for the US House of Representatives. He exercised this mandate between January 4, 1896 and March 3, 1897. He refused to run again for the congressional elections of 1896.

Another résumé

After the end of his political activities in Congress , Allen returned to his mining business until 1922. Then he retired, which he spent in Columbus, Ohio until 1931 . He then moved to California, where he died in 1932.
