Karen Shepherd (born July 5, 1940 in Silver City , New Mexico ) is an American politician ( Democratic Party ). Between 1993 and 1995 she represented the second constituency of the state of Utah in the US House of Representatives .

Career

After elementary school, Karen Shepherd attended the University of Utah until 1962 and then continued her education at Brigham Young University until 1963 . Between 1963 and 1975 she worked as a high school teacher. She was also a member of the advisory board of US Senator Frank Moss .

Shepherd became Salt Lake City Social Services Director . In 1978 she founded a press publishing house, which she managed until 1988 and in which she published her own magazine. Between 1989 and 1992 she was a department director at the David Eccles School of Business , which is part of the University of Utah. Karen Shepherd was a member of the Utah Senate from 1991 to 1993 .

In 1992 she was elected to the US House of Representatives in the second constituency of Utah with 50% of the vote against Republican Enid Greene , where she replaced Wayne Owens on January 3, 1993 . After she was defeated in the 1994 elections with 36% against 46% of the votes against Greene, she resigned from Congress on January 3, 1995 after only one legislative period . After serving in Congress, she served on the quorum of the Political Institute of the John F. Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University .
