Layton is a city in Davis County in the US - state of Utah . It is the largest city in the county.

geography

The place covers an area of ​​54 km², of which 0.3 km² is water. The local altitude is 4,356 feet above sea level. According to the US Census Bureau, the city had around 58,474 inhabitants in 2000. By 2004 the population increased to 61,205.

Layton is approximately 11 miles south of Ogden and 23 miles north of Salt Lake City . The city is bounded to the east by the Wasatch Mountains and west by the Great Salt Lake . This region is known for strong westerly winds.

history

The first Mormons settled in the Kaysville- Layton area around 1850. In 1882 two farmers settled a few miles north of Kaysville. The area was first called Kays Creek and has been called Layton since 1886. The settlement was named after Christopher Layton, an early settler.
