Travis Mitchell Hansen (born April 15, 1978 in Provo ) is an American basketball player . His positions are those of the Small Forward or Shooting Guard . Since 2010 he has been playing for BK Chimki .

Career

Travis Hansen began his college career at Utah Valley University . After his mother died of complications from a pancreatic tumor , Hansen went to Santiago de Chile as a Mormon missionary for two years . Between 2000 and 2003 he played again in his home country for Brigham Young University in the Mountain West Conference college basketball. In the 2003 NBA Draft , he was the first Brigham Young University basketball player since Shawn Bradley (1993) to be drafted. He was signed by the Atlanta Hawks as the 37th pick .

In the NBA , he only made 41 appearances in the following season and so he decided to move to Spain to TAU Vitoria . With the Basques he won the Supercup in 2005 and reached the final of the Euroleague , in 2006 he and his team won the Spanish Cup . Between 2006 and 2009 he was active for the Russian club Dynamo Moscow and received Russian citizenship during this time before moving again to Spain, to Real Madrid . There he played until the summer of 2010. For the 2010/2011 season, he received no new contract in Madrid. In December 2010 he signed the Russian first division club BK Chimki .

Travis Hansen and his wife founded a foundation called the Little Heroes Foundation , which is dedicated to children in need.
