Shawn Paul Bradley (born March 22, 1972 in Landstuhl ) is a retired American basketball player who was active in the NBA from 1993 to 2005 , most of it with the Dallas Mavericks . At eight feet tall, the center was one of the tallest players in league history.

Bradley grew up in Castle Dale (Utah), but as a US citizen also has German citizenship. He was born in Landstuhl to a German mother and a former US soldier.

Career

NBA

Bradley was selected second in the 1993 NBA Draft by the Philadelphia 76ers . In his first season as a professional, Bradley was named for good performance on the NBA All-Rookie Second Team .

In his 12-year NBA runtime, Bradley is currently 15th in the NBA all-time block list with 2,119 blocked throws and is currently 9th with 2.55 blocks per game. In the 1996/97 season he led the NBA shot block list with 3.4 blocks per game and in the 2000/01 season he had the most blocked throws in the league with Jermaine O'Neal .

He announced his retirement from professional basketball in June 2005 due to health problems.

National team

With his teammate Dirk Nowitzki , he played for Germany at the 2001 European Championships in Turkey and finished fourth with the team. After that he was not nominated again for the national team.

Private

Bradley is a deeply religious person. He played only one season at Brigham Young University before serving as a missionary in Australia when he was 19. Bradley often makes donations to charities. He has six children with his wife Anette.

Bradley is a European shoe size 57 and his arm span is 2.29 meters.

He starred in the 1996 film Space Jam .
