Kiley Staples (born February 2, 1989 in Provo , Utah ) is an American ski racer . She competes in all disciplines and won the overall standings in the Nor-Am Cup in the 2010/11 season .

biography

Kiley Staples first competed in FIS races in November 2004 and made her first appearance in the Nor-Am Cup that same month . After numerous top 10 results in FIS races, podiums at the US Junior Championships and a victory in the South American Cup, her results in the Nor-Am Cup also improved significantly at the beginning of 2006. By the end of the 2005/06 season she drove in the slalom three times under the top five, which she achieved sixth place in the discipline ranking. In the 2006/07 season she achieved her first podium places (four in all in the slalom and super-G disciplines) and the first victory in Panorama slalom , which also helped her to win the discipline. With a total of ten top 10 placements in all disciplines except downhill, she also achieved second place in the overall ranking. In the following two years she was still one of the best slalom and, increasingly, giant slalom runners in the Nor-Am Cup, while she barely achieved any top positions in the Super-G.

From 2006 to 2008 Staples participated in three Junior World Championships . Her best result was a fifth place in the combination of slalom, giant slalom and downhill run in Formigal 2008 , the best result in a single race was eighth place in the Altenmarkt / Flachau slalom in 2007 . In the Junior World Championship 2009 Staples could no longer participate, because in February 2009 she suffered a cruciate ligament rupture , which is why she had to pause until the end of the year. In the remaining 2009/2010 season, a seventh place in the giant slalom in Waterville Valley was her best result in the Nor-Am Cup, while in March she won four FIS slaloms on four consecutive days. In the 2010/11 season she managed to catch up with the top again in the Nor-Am Cup when she won the Lake Louise Downhill on December 8, 2010 . With a second victory in the Super Combined from Aspen and another six podium places, she won the overall standings and came second in each of the downhill, slalom, giant slalom and super combined disciplines. In the 2011/12 season she was fifth overall with two podium places and fourth in the downhill and slalom rankings.

In the World Cup , the US-American made her debut on November 25, 2007 in the Panorama slalom, where she was eliminated in the first round. Only a few more World Cup appearances followed in the next few years, but since the 2011/2012 season she has competed more frequently in the top racing series. So far, however, she has not won any World Cup points. In March 2012, Staples won their first US championship in the combination of super-G and slalom.
