Cecil Mamiit began his career in 1996 and won a total of 15 tournaments on the ATP Challenger Tour , seven in singles and eight more in doubles with changing partners. In singles, he was able to reach the final of the World Tour once when he met Mark Philippoussis in the 1999 final in San José . However, he was clearly defeated by 3: 6 and 2: 6. He reached his highest placements in the world rankings with 72nd place in singles on October 11, 1999 and 102nd place in doubles on October 30, 2006. In Grand Slam tournaments , he never got beyond the second round in singles. Between 1999 and 2001 he achieved this multiple times at the Australian Open and the French Open , as well as once at the US Open . In doubles, he always suffered a defeat in the opening round. In 1999 he won the silver medal in singles at the Pan American Games in Winnipeg after losing to his compatriot Paul Goldstein in the final. Until 2004, Mamiit competed under the American flag because he was born in Los Angeles . From 2005 he played for the Philippines , the country of origin of his parents. In 2006 he took part in the Asian Games in Doha , where he won bronze medals in both singles and doubles. In the singles he was defeated in the semifinals to the South Korean Lee Hyung-taik , in the doubles competition he had to admit defeat at the side of Eric Taino in the semifinals of the Indian pairing Mahesh Bhupathi and Leander Paes .
Between 2006 and 2011, Cecil Mamiit played a total of 20 matches for the Philippine Davis Cup team . He won 16 of a total of 29 singles games, and nine of his 16 games in doubles. Cecil Mamiit and Treat Conrad Huey are the most successful doubles in the Philippine Davis Cup history with five games they won together.
