Amer Delić (born June 30, 1982 in Tuzla ) is a former Bosnian tennis player who played for the United States for a long time . He is known for his strong serve.
Career
In 1996 Delić moved with his family from his home to Jacksonville , Florida , where he attended Samuel W. Wolfson High School. He then attended the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign , on whose tennis team he played. In 2003 he won the NCAA Championships in individual and team competitions.
So far, Delić has won seven smaller tournaments (two Future tournaments, five Challenger tournaments) between 2003 and 2008, and he achieved his best Grand Slam result at the Australian Open in 2009 when, after winning over Taylor Dent and Paul-Henri Mathieu in advanced the third round. There he was defeated by Novak Đoković in four sets (2: 6, 6: 4, 3: 6, 6: 7). On March 26, 2007 he defeated the then number four in the world rankings Nikolai Dawydenko in two sets (7: 6, 6: 3) at the Masters tournament in Miami .
From 2010 to 2012 Delić played in the Davis Cup team in his home country Bosnia-Herzegovina.
