Travis Rettenmaier (born August 6, 1983 in Tarzana , Los Angeles , California ) is a retired American tennis player . He was especially successful in doubles.

life and career

Rettenmaier first drew attention to himself when he won the world championship in this age group with the U16 national team. It was the first title for the USA in this competition. He then went to UCLA , the same university as his mother, Karen Dawson, who also played tennis. There he also played college tennis .

From 2001 onwards he played professional games and by 2002 he had already won five future tournaments (4 in doubles, 1 in singles), but the jump to the next tournament level (Challenger) was a long time coming. He won his first challenger tournament in his hometown of Tarzana in 2005. He was also able to beat Janko Tipsarević in Nottingham in the singles on the ATP World Tour . Otherwise he had little success in singles, where he was only able to advance to rank 273 in 2006.

The final breakthrough came in 2008 alongside Carsten Ball ; with him he won 6 of his 19 titles on the Challenger Tour. In 2009 alone he won 8 Challengers, which enabled him to reach his highest world ranking position with 57th place in July 2010 . This year he also achieved his best result in Grand Slam tournaments with the round of 16 at the French Open . But he celebrated his greatest success with the Mexican Santiago González when he won his only World Tour event. In Belgrade they won against Tomasz Bednarek and Mateusz Kowalczyk .

He ended his career in 2012 after the Challenger in Guadalajara .
