Ken Skupski (born April 9, 1983 in Liverpool ) is a British tennis player .
Career
As a younger athlete, he mainly played college tennis in the United States , where he played for Louisiana State University . In 2005 he was a double finalist in the national college tennis eliminations, as well as a two-time winner of the Southeastern Conference Coaches Indoor Championships . In 2007 he finally turned professional and since then has primarily been known as a dual specialist, especially the collaboration with compatriot Colin Fleming was very successful. In the 2007 and 2008 seasons, he won a total of ten double competitions in future tournaments.
Skupski experienced his breakthrough in the 2009 season: he not only won five tournaments on the ATP Challenger Tour , he was also able to make a name for himself on the ATP World Tour . At the tournament at the Queen's Club in London , he and Fleming defeated world number one Bob and Mike Bryan . In autumn, the duo celebrated their first joint ATP title in Metz, which they repeated shortly afterwards at the tournament in St. Petersburg , where they also triumphed.
During the 2010 season Skupski did not win any ATP tournaments, but reached the final in Eastbourne , where he and Fleming lost to the Polish duo Mariusz Fyrstenberg and Marcin Matkowski . He also won two Challenger tournaments in Jersey (with Rohan Bopanna ) and Nottingham (with Fleming). In July he reached his previous career high with position 44 on the double world rankings.
The 2011 season got off to a successful start. In Bergamo he won a Challenger tournament alongside the Dane Frederik Nielsen and in March his third ATP tournament: in Marseille he and Robin Haase defeated the local heroes Julien Benneteau and Jo-Wilfried Tsonga .
