Jérémy Chardy (born February 12, 1987 in Pau ) is a French tennis player . In 2005 he won the junior title at Wimbledon .
Career
From the age of 18, Chardy was looked after by the former tennis professional Frédéric Fontang . In 2006 he played his first Grand Slam tournament at the French Open . In round one he defeated Jonas Björkman there , but was then eliminated by David Ferrer . In 2008 he reached the last sixteen at the French Open after defeating world number seven David Nalbandian .
In 2009 Chardy moved into his first ATP final in Johannesburg , where he lost to Jo-Wilfried Tsonga 4-6 and 6-7 5 . Shortly afterwards he reached the semifinals in Delray Beach . On July 19, 2009 he won the ATP tournament in Stuttgart with a three-set win in the final against Victor Hănescu ; it was his first tournament victory on the ATP Tour. At the first tournament of 2010 in Brisbane , he won his first double title with Marc Gicquel . In 2011, Chardy separated from Fontang, which led to a legal battle.
In 2013 he defeated Juan Martín del Potro in the third round of the Australian Open and Andreas Seppi in the round of 16 . By moving into the quarterfinals, he achieved his previous best performance in a Grand Slam tournament; he lost there, however, against Andy Murray . While there were no major successes in the individual, Chardy secured seven double titles by the end of 2019. He also reached the double-finals with Fabrice Martin at the 2019 French Open .
