Sergio Andres Roitman  (born May 16,   1979  in Buenos Aires  ) is a retired Argentinian   tennis player  . 
Career  
Roitman started playing tennis at the age of ten and turned pro in 1996. He achieved his greatest sporting successes in doubles, each time together with Andrés Schneiter  . In 2000 he won in Amsterdam  and in 2001 he won his only two titles on the ATP World Tour  in Umag  . On the lower class  ATP Challenger Tour he  won a total of 35 titles, 10 of them in singles. In 2003 when he won the tournament in  Cherbourg  , he was able to defeat the later number 1  Rafael Nadal  in the final . His best performance in a  Grand Slam tournament  was the semi-finals at the  US Open  . In the individual, he never got past the opening round in twelve main draw participations. On September 8, 2008 he reached 45th place in the  double world rankings  ; in the individual he was on October 8, 2007 on rank 62. After the Challenger in  Buenos Aires  2009 he announced his resignation due to recurring injuries.
 
Personal 
 
At the age of 17, Roitman was shot in the stomach with a rubber bullet at a Hermética  concert . Roitman learned the piano at the ages of 6 and 12, but ultimately decided to play tennis.
