Tomas Ugo Behrend (born December 12, 1974 in Porto Alegre , Brazil ) is a former German- Brazilian tennis player .

Career

Behrend spent his childhood in Brazil. He started playing tennis at the age of five. In October 1993 he moved to Germany and from 1994 played his first satellite tournaments .

In 2003, Behrend was appointed to the German Davis Cup team by team boss Patrik Kühnen . At the start of the encounter against Belarus , he played his only match in the Davis Cup. After five sets he lost to the Belarusian Max Mirny . After a 2: 3 defeat, Germany was relegated from the world group.

In the same year, on October 3, 2005, Behrend reached 74th place, his best placement in the tennis world rankings .

In the following years, Behrend shifted more and more to doubles, where he had considerable success, especially in Challenger tournaments. Shortly before he officially ended his career at the Lambertz Open in Aachen in 2007, he had achieved his highest place in the double world rankings with rank 43. He played his last game for the time being on November 2, 2007, when he had to admit defeat to the doubles Mischa Zverev and Dominik Meffert in the semi-finals of the Lambertz Open alongside Christopher Kas .

At the French Open in Paris 2008, Behrend returned to the professional business at short notice to compete in doubles alongside the Czech Tomáš Cibulec . In the first round, the two failed because of the Argentine pairing of José Acasuso and Sebastián Prieto .
