Michael Kohlmann (born January 11, 1974 in Hagen ) is a former German tennis player from Herdecke . His first club was the Herdecker TC Grün-Weiß 1976.

Tennis career

He won five double titles in his career from 2002 to 2007. In the tennis world rankings he reached 98th place in singles as the highest position in 1998, and in doubles he was ranked 27th in March 2007.

For Germany he played in the Davis Cup against Australia in 2000 . He was also nominated for the matches against Croatia in 2002 and Argentina in 2003. In September 2006 he celebrated a comeback in the German Davis Cup team when he and Alexander Waske won the double encounter in the relegation play-off against Thailand . Also in the Davis Cup season 2007 he won the first round against Croatia with doubles partner Alexander Waske the decisive 2-1. In the quarter-finals against Belgium Kohlmann was also used alongside Waske in doubles; they won and thus secured the decisive third point for entry into the Davis Cup semi-finals. Kohlmann lost the insignificant individual against Christoph Rochus, which he then played for Tommy Haas , who had already left , in three sets. His record is 4: 4 in the Davis Cup.

In the 2007 season Kohlmann reached the quarter-finals of the French Open alongside Rainer Schüttler . At the beginning of 2007, together with Alexander Waske and other active and former German tennis professionals, he initiated the Tennis Germany campaign , the aim of which is to make tennis in Germany the number 2 sport after football for the foreseeable future. In 2013 at Wimbledon he played his last tournament as an active player.

In February 2015 he took over the captaincy of the German Davis Cup team .
