Thomas Buchmayer (born February 14, 1971 in St. Pölten ) is a former Austrian tennis player .

Life

Buchmayer became a professional tennis player in 1989. First he played on the ATP Challenger Tour , where he reached the semi-finals of the doubles competition of the Nairobi tournament . In July 1989 he received a wild card for the ATP tournament in Kitzbühel , where he was able to eliminate two well-known players - Tomás Carbonell and Alberto Mancini - before losing to Francisco Clavet in the round of 16 . In October 1989 he received a wildcard for Vienna , where he reached the second round again after defeating Ricki Osterthun , and this time lost to Thomas Muster . He celebrated his first individual title win in 1991 at the Challenger tournament in Graz . In the course of his career he was able to win two singles and two doubles titles on the ATP Challenger Tour. He reached his highest ranking in the tennis world rankings in 1991 with position 198 in singles and in 1998 with position 133 in doubles. He could never qualify for a Grand Slam tournament in singles or doubles .

Buchmayer played two singles and two doubles for the Austrian Davis Cup team between 1991 and 1998 . However, he could only win his debut; here he won his single encounter against Karel Nováček in the game against Czechoslovakia . In the same year he was defeated in the game against Great Britain Jeremy Bates . His match against Mark Petchey was canceled when the score was 6: 6 in the first set and not counted as Austria was already the loser. In 1990 he also competed for Austria at the World Team Cup , but without being able to win a game.
