Karel Nováček (born March 30, 1965 in Prostějov , then ČSSR ) is a former Czech tennis player .
Life
The 1.90 meter tall baseline player won 13 individual tournaments in his career, including the German Open in Hamburg in 1991 . Today he lives in Boca Raton , Florida.
He reached his best world ranking position in 1991 with 8th place. His best result in a Grand Slam tournament was achieved in 1994 when he reached the semifinals of the US Open , which he beat Michael Stich 5: 7, 3: 6, 6: 7 lost. In 1993 he played the double finals there alongside his compatriot Martin Damm .
From 1987 to 1994 he also played 20 Davis Cup games, of which he was able to win nine.
At the French Open in 1995, Nováček tested positive for cocaine , which is why he was banned for three months. In 1996 he ended his professional career.
