Richard Fromberg (born April 28, 1970 in Ulverstone , Tasmania ) is a retired Australian tennis player .

Life

Fromberg was at the junior tournament of the Australian Open 1987 in both singles and doubles in the finals. The following year he became a professional tennis player and was able to win his first tournaments on the ATP World Tour in 1990 . He won in Båstad and Bologna that year and was in the final of ATP Singapore . He also won alongside Brad Pearce at the tournament in Schenectady . 1990 was his most successful year, in which he also achieved his highest ranking in the tennis world rankings with position 24 . In 1997 he won his last ATP tournament in singles at the Romanian Open , and in the same year he won his second double title with Wayne Arthurs in Kitzbühel . His highest ranking in the double world rankings was in 1998 with 159th place. His best single result at a Grand Slam tournament was reaching the round of 16 of the Australian Open in 1993 and 1998.

Fromberg played between 1990 and 2001 14 singles games for the Australian Davis Cup team , in addition there was an encounter in doubles at the side of Todd Woodbridge in 1996. His record was ten wins and two defeats. He was twice in the final of the Davis Cup. In the 3-2 loss to the United States , he won his singles against Michael Chang and lost to Andre Agassi . In the 4: 1 final defeat against Germany , he won against Marc-Kevin Goellner and lost to Michael Stich .

At the 1992 Summer Olympics in Barcelona , he played for Australia, but was eliminated in the first round in five sets against Michael Stich.
