Sven Salumaa (born October 21, 1966 , in Huntington , New York ) is a retired American tennis player .

Life

The son of Estonian immigrants studied at Indiana University between 1984 and 1988 . In 1989 he became a professional tennis player, specializing in doubles. The following year he won his first and only title on the ATP World Tour in Rio de Janeiro . He was also in a double-final five more times, including the 1991 ATP Championship Series tournament in Indianapolis and 1992 the Masters tournaments in Miami and Indian Wells . He reached his highest ranking in the tennis world rankings in 1990 with position 516 in singles and in 1992 with position 25 in doubles.

In the individual, he could never qualify for a Grand Slam tournament. In the doubles competition he reached the semifinals of the US Open in 1990 . At the side of Brian Garrow he was defeated in five sets to the later tournament winners Pieter Aldrich and Danie Visser . In mixed he reached the round of 16 of the Australian Open , the French Open and Wimbledon .
