The son of Estonian immigrants studied at Indiana University between 1984 and 1988 . In 1989 he became a professional tennis player, specializing in doubles. The following year he won his first and only title on the ATP World Tour in Rio de Janeiro . He was also in a double-final five more times, including the 1991 ATP Championship Series tournament in Indianapolis and 1992 the Masters tournaments in Miami and Indian Wells . He reached his highest ranking in the tennis world rankings in 1990 with position 516 in singles and in 1992 with position 25 in doubles.
