Barry Cowan (born August 24, 1974 in Southport ) is a former British tennis player from England .

Career

Cowan won two Challenger titles in his career on the second-rate Challenger Tour , one each in singles and one in doubles. On the ATP Tour he was in the final in Chennai in 2001 , but lost alongside Mosé Navarra against the Zimbabweans Byron and Wayne Black . In Grand Slam tournaments at Wimbledon in 2001 and 2002 , he was able to reach the second round in singles, and in 1999 he made it into the second round in doubles.

He participated in the 2000 Summer Olympics in Sydney . He competed in both singles and doubles. In the singles he met the Canadian Daniel Nestor in the opening round , to whom he lost 7: 5, 1: 6, 4: 6. In the doubles competition , he was eliminated on the side of Kyle Spencer also in the first round. They lost against the Russians Yevgeny Kafelnikow and Marat Safin 6: 7 2 , 4: 6.

Cowan played an encounter for the British Davis Cup team in 2001 . In the opening game of the world group against Ecuador he was used in the fourth individual, which he clearly lost with 1: 6, 4: 6. However, the defeat had no effect on the team's progress, as Great Britain was already 4-0 ahead at the time. It was Cowan's only mission.
