The British Davis Cup team is the tennis national team of the United Kingdom . The Davis Cup is the most important competition for national teams in men's tennis, analogous to the Fed Cup for women.
history
The United Kingdom has participated in the Davis Cup since 1900 . From 1900 to 1912 Ireland was also part of the team, before they competed separately from 1913 . In those years the team competed as the British Isles . Today the team takes part in the Davis Cup as "Great Britain" and consists of players from England, Wales and Scotland. Players from Northern Ireland play a special role and can compete for both the Irish and British teams.
The team reached the final of the cup a total of 18 times and won ten of these games. In 1978 the team was in the final for the penultimate time, losing to Spain 5-0. It was not until 2015 that Great Britain reached the final again, in which it met Belgium . The encounters were won 3: 1, Andy Murray was involved in all three point wins .
The British are the only nation to have participated in every edition since the Davis Cup began in 1900. The most successful player is Fred Perry with 45 wins, Bobby Wilson is the record player with 34 appearances.
