The Luxembourg Davis Cup team represents Luxembourg in the Davis Cup and thus functions as the Luxembourg national tennis team. It is administered by the Fédération Luxembourgeoise de Tennis and is currently located in the Europe / Africa zone of Group II.
history
Luxembourg took part in the Davis Cup for the first time in 1947 and lost their first 17 games until their first win in 1965 , a 3-2 win over Turkey.
In 1991 the team first attracted attention and reached the final of Group II, but lost it to Norway. A year later, she was promoted to Group I and reached the second round there, which is her greatest success so far. This wave of success did not last long, however: Luxembourg was relegated again in 1994 and shortly afterwards even had to play in Group III.
In April 2000 came Gilles Müller in the team and played his first match at the 2: 3 defeat to Ireland, where he celebrated two race wins. In the following years he and Mike Scheidweiler contributed significantly to the resurgence of Luxembourg, which played again in Group I in 2003 and reached the quarter-finals in 2004 and 2006 .
After a relegation defeat against Macedonia in 2007, they were relegated again and in the meantime Luxembourg had to compete in Group III before moving into Group II again in 2010 . In April 2012 Scheidweiler surpassed Johny Goudenbour's record against Madagascar with his 19th double win, making him the most successful doubles player in the Luxembourg Davis Cup history. In the 3-2 win against Morocco in February 2014, Scheidweiler completed his 36th Davis Cup participation for Luxembourg, surpassing another Goudenbour record.
In 1992, 2003, 2004 and 2006 the selection was chosen as the Luxembourg team of the year .
