In 2012 the Davis Cup was held for the 101st time. 16 teams played in the world group for the title. The defending champion was Spain , whose team beat Argentina 3-1 in 2011 and entered the list of winners for the fifth time. The Spaniards managed to reach the final again, but in Prague they lost 3-2 to hosts Czech Republic . For the Czech Republic it was the first title win; In 1980 , Czechoslovakia won the title for the only time.
