The Japanese Davis Cup team is the national tennis team of Japan . The Davis Cup is the most important competition for national teams in men's tennis, analogous to the Fed Cup for women.
history
In 1921 Japan took part in the Davis Cup for the first time and went straight to the final. Against the favored Americans , the final in New York was clearly lost 5-0. In 1981 , Japan moved back into the world group for a year, a success that was only to be repeated in 2012. In the opening round of the Davis Cup 2012 , the team lost just 3-2 to Croatia .
