The Russian Davis Cup team is the national tennis team of Russia . The Davis Cup is the most important competition for national teams in men's tennis, analogous to the Fed Cup for women.
history
Russia has been participating in the Davis Cup under the Russian flag since 1993 . From 1962 to 1991 it was the team of the Soviet Union , in 1992 it took part as the Commonwealth of Independent States . So far, the team has played five finals, two of which they won. In 2002 the team won against France 3-2, in 2006 the success was repeated with another 3-2 against Argentina . Because of these successes, Russia was temporarily at the top of the ITF rankings. The most successful player is Alexander Metreweli , who won a total of 80 games within 14 years.
