The Russian national women's volleyball team is a selection of the best Russian female players who represent the Russian Volleyball Federation (Vserossijskaja Federazija Wolejbola, Всероссийская Федерация Волейбола) at international tournaments and matches. The Russian national team is the successor to the Soviet national team , which was one of the most successful teams in its time. In 1992 the United Team played .

World Championship

The Russians first competed at the 1994 World Cup and finished third. They also won the bronze medal at the 1998 and 2002 tournaments. In 2006 in Japan they became world champions in the final against Brazil . In 2010 they succeeded in defending their title with another success against Brazil. In Italy in 2014 , on the other hand, Russia was eliminated in the third round and finished fifth. At the 2018 World Cup , she was eliminated in the second group stage and thus achieved the worst World Cup result since the end of the Soviet Union.

Olympic games

Russia successfully defended the title of the Soviet Union in the final against the Czech Republic at the 1993 European Championship . After finishing third in 1995 , the Russians won the next three European championships, first against Croatia in 1997 and 1999 , then against Italy in 2001 . With the fifth place in 2003 they missed a medal for the first time. In 2005 and 2007 the Russian women finished third. In 2009 and 2011 they came in sixth place. In 2013 in Germany they defeated the hosts in the final and became European champions for the second time. In 2015 in the Netherlands, they also defended the title with a success in the final against the hosts. At the 2017 European Championship, they were eliminated as defending champions in the quarter-finals against Turkey . The 2019 tournament ended for them in the quarter-finals against Italy.

World cup

At the 1999 World Cup , Russia lost the final against Cuba . In 2015 , the team took part in this tournament again and finished fourth. At the World Cup 2019 she was third.

Nations League

At the first edition of the Nations League 2018 , the Russians missed the final round as seventh overall. At the 2019 tournament , they slipped to 14th place.

World Grand Prix

In 2003 there was the same duel with the better ending for the Chinese. In 2004 they finished seventh in Russia and the following year they were absent from the competition. In 2006 they were in the final again, but lost to Brazil. After a fourth place in 2007 and another missed tournament, there was another lost final against the South Americans in 2009. After that, the Russians came fourth in 2011 and seventh in 2013. In 2014 they returned to the medal ranks in third place. In 2015 they had to admit defeat to hosts USA in the final . In 2016 they lost the game for third place against the Netherlands . In the last edition in 2017, they achieved their worst result with ninth place.
