European women's volleyball championship 1993

The 1993 European Women's Volleyball Championship took place in Brno from September 24th to October 2nd . As the successor to the Soviet Union, Russia continued the series of successes and won the 14th European Championship.

mode

The twelve participants were divided into two groups of six in the preliminary round. The group winners and runners-up reached the semi-finals. The third and fourth played for places five to eight.

qualification

The Czechoslovakia was set to host. The seven best teams from the 1991 European Championship were also automatically qualified. These were Russia (formerly the Soviet Union) as the defending champion, the second Netherlands , the third Germany , the fourth Italy , the sixth Romania , the seventh Bulgaria and the eighth Greece .

Twenty other teams played for four more places in the finals. In the first qualifying round, eight teams played against each other in the first and second leg. The four winners formed four groups of four with twelve other teams, in which each team competed at home and away against the three opponents. The group winners reached the finals.
