The Romanian national women's volleyball team is a selection of the best Romanian women players represented by the Federația Română de Volei in international tournaments and internationals.

history

World Championship

The Romanian women finished fifth in their first participation in a volleyball world championship in 1952. Four years later they were only defeated by the Soviet Union in the final. In 1962 and 1974 they were again in fifth place, in between there was a seventh place in 1970. After a twenty-year break, they could not build on their previous successes in 1994 and only achieved 13th place. The same result was achieved at the 2002 World Cup.

Olympic games

At the first Olympic tournament in Tokyo in 1964 , Romania narrowly missed a medal as fourth. In 1980 in Moscow , Romania finished eighth.

European Championship

The Romanians finished fourth or fifth in their first four participations in a European volleyball championship , although it was not until 1958 that more than six teams took part. When the European Championships took place in their own country for the second time since 1955 in 1963, the Romanian women achieved their greatest success in third place. Four years later, however, it was only ninth. In the next six tournaments there were always placements between five and seven. Between 1985 and 1989 the Romanians climbed from eleventh to fourth place, before the results in 1991 (sixth) and 1993 (ninth) got a little worse again. After missing the European Championship in 1995 they achieved results between sixth and ninth five times. For the EM 2007 Romania could not qualify.

World cup

Romania has never participated in the World Cup .

World Grand Prix

The Romanian women also did not play in the World Grand Prix .
