The Romanian national volleyball team for men is a selection of the best Romanian players that the Federaţia Română de Volei represents in international tournaments and internationals.

history

World Championship

At the first volleyball world championship in 1949, the Romanians took fifth place. Also in 1952 they just missed the medal ranks as fourth. Four years later they reached the final against Czechoslovakia . After two third places, they were able to repeat this success in 1966. After that, they did worse in seventh and sixth, and in 1978 and 1982 it was only enough to place 13th and 15th.

Olympic games

Romania finished fourth in the first Olympic tournament in Tokyo in 1964 . In 1972 in Munich , the Romanians finished fifth. In 1980 in Moscow they celebrated their greatest success by winning the bronze medal.

European Championship

When they first took part in a European volleyball championship , the Romanians finished last out of six participants. The following year they climbed to fourth place. In 1955 they reached the final against Czechoslovakia in their own country and three years later they repeated the success in Czechoslovakia. In 1963 the European Championship took place in Romania again and the hosts won their first continental title against Hungary . As fifth they missed the title defense in 1967. In the next three tournaments they came third, fourth and third again. After that, they performed gradually worse with placements between five and eight and at the end of the 1980s it was enough to ranks ten and twelve. After two missed tournaments, the Romanians finished ninth in 1995. Afterwards they could only qualify in 2003 (eighth place).

World cup

Romania participated in the first two tournaments of the World Cup in 1965 and 1969 , finishing sixth and seventh.

World league

In the world league Romania has never played.

European League

In 2007 Romania reached tenth place in the Europa League .
