The Austrian men's national volleyball team is a selection of the best Austrian players who represent the Austrian Volleyball Association at international tournaments and international matches.

history

World Championship

When Austria took part in a volleyball world championship for the first time in 1956, with twenty participants, Austria did not get past the last rank. In 1962 they were also the worst team as 19th.

Olympic games

Austria has never qualified for the Olympic Games.

European Championship

The Austrians took part in a European volleyball championship three times in a row from 1955 to 1963 , finishing once 13th and twice 16th. As hosts, they finished eighth in 1999.

At the home European championships in 2011 in Austria and the Czech Republic , Austria was eliminated after three defeats in the preliminary round and finished in 16th and last place.

In 2019, the team from Austria qualified for the EM for the first time on its own and meets Belgium, Slovakia, Germany, Spain and Serbia in Group B. The 2019 European Volleyball Championship took place from September 12th to 29th in Slovenia, France, Belgium and the Netherlands. The Austrian team did not win a game at the European Championships, but won a point against the later round of 16 players Spain with a 2: 3.

World league

First participation in the volleyball world league in 2017, after victories over Venezuela, Kazakhstan, Germany and Mexico, 5th place was achieved in group 3.

World cup

The Volleyball World Cup has also taken place without Austrian participation so far.

European League

When they first took part in the Europa League in 2008 , the Austrians finished in seventh place after the preliminary rounds against Germany , Turkey and Belarus . In the following years you landed on places eleven, eight and twelve. In 2012 Austria took eighth place, not finishing the group stage last for the first time. In the group of five, team boss Michael Warm's team left Romania behind.

In 2015 , Austria met Estonia, Macedonia, Poland , Denmark and Israel in one of two groups of six (Pool A) . They landed fourth within the group ahead of Denmark and Israel and thus finished seventh in the overall standings, as in the previous year.

In 2018, Macedonia, Kosovo and Latvia reached 2nd place in group of four A, but Macedonia, as an organizer, qualified for the final 4 despite a poorer placement, and Austria therefore placed 5th.

In 2019 the team reached 3rd place, after the preliminary round they were tied with Greece in 2nd place in Group A, but Greece had won one set more than the Austrian team.
