Volleyball European League 2008

The 2008 season of the European Volleyball League was the fifth edition of the competition. It started on June 13th and ended on July 20th.

The preliminary round was held in two groups. One group consisted of five teams, the other of four teams. The teams competed against each other in five or four four-way tournaments. In the group of five, one team paused. The two group winners and the best runner-up in the group qualified for the final four alongside hosts Turkey .

Final Four

The Final Four was held in Bursa ( Turkey ) from July 19th to 20th . The Slovaks prevailed with a narrow win (19:17 in the tiebreak) against the German team, which renounced some regular players because of the upcoming Olympic Games . In the other semi-final, the Dutch defeated the hosts. With another success in the final, the Slovaks secured their first international title since independence. The German team also lost the game for third place against Turkey in the tie-break after they had already led 2-0.
