The Portuguese national volleyball team is a selection of the best Portuguese players who represent the Federação Portuguesa de Voleibol in international tournaments and internationals.
history
After Portugal 1947 founding member of the World Volleyball Federation FIVB was and first international respectable performances had finished, the ministry of the authoritarian sub-band Estado Novo -Regimes from the late 1950s, all other international participations of national Volleyball Federation FPV . It was not until the decades after the Carnation Revolution in 1974 that volleyball began to attract increasing attention in Portugal.
World Championship
When they first took part in a volleyball world championship , the Portuguese finished 15th in 1956. They finished eighth at the 2002 World Cup.
Olympic games
Portugal has not yet qualified for the Olympic Games.
European Championship
At the first European volleyball championship in 1948, the Portuguese achieved their best result in fourth. In 1951 they finished seventh. At the EM 2005 they came in tenth place.
World cup
The World Cup has so far taken place without Portuguese participation.
World league
In 1999 Portugal played for the first time in the world league and finished tenth. From 2001 to 2003 it was 13th place three times in a row, in 2004 the Portuguese were tenth again. They achieved their best result in 2005 when they came fifth. In 2006 there was another 13th place.
European League
In the 2007 Europa League, as hosts of the Final Four, the Portuguese were only defeated in the final against the Spanish national team . At the Europaliga 2008 they were eliminated after the preliminary round and finished eighth. Then in 2010 the Portuguese won the competition.
