The Turkish national volleyball team for women is a selection of the best Turkish women players, which the Türkiye Voleybol Federasyonu represents at international tournaments and internationals. The Turkish women were twice European runner-up and have been taking part in world championships since 2006. In 2020 they qualified for the second time for the Olympic Games.
history
World Championship
In 2006, the Turkish women took part in a volleyball world championship for the first time and finished tenth. At the 2010 World Cup , they achieved their best result so far with sixth place. Four years later they were eliminated in the second group stage and finished ninth. In the 2018 World Cup they came to tenth place.
Olympic games
The Turkish women took part in the Olympic Games for the first time in London in 2012. Despite two wins, they were eliminated after the preliminary round. Four years later they missed qualifying. In 2020 they won the European qualifying tournament in the final against the German team and secured their starting place for the tournament in Tokyo .
European Championship
Turkey first took part in a European volleyball championship in 1963 and finished tenth. Four years later it was only enough to finish twelfth as a host. The same result was achieved at the EM in 1981 . The next European Championship participations ended in 1989 in eleventh and 1995 in ninth place. In 2003 the Turkish women reached the final as hosts for the first time and lost to Poland . At the European Championships in 2005 , 2007 and 2009 they were sixth, tenth and fifth. At the 2011 tournament they came third. After a seventh place in 2013 , they lost the game for third place at the European Championship 2015 against the Serbian national volleyball team of women . In 2017 the Turkish women finished third again. At the EM 2019 they only had to admit defeat against Serbia in the final.
Nations League
In the Nations League 2018 , the Turkish women reached the final against the USA and lost in the tie-break. During the tournament in 2019 they finished fourth.
World cup
Turkey has only participated in the 2003 World Cup and finished seventh.
World Grand Prix
At the World Grand Prix , the Turkish women finished seventh in 2008 and barely missed the final round. In 2012, they achieved their best result in this competition with third place. After finishing eighth in 2013, they finished fourth a year later. They finished the other three editions of this competition in eleventh and tenth place respectively.
European League
Turkey hosted the first three editions of the European Volleyball League, which has been held since 2009 . At the premiere, the Turkish women lost to Serbia in the final. A year later they finished third before losing the final against Serbia again in 2011. In the next two tournaments they did worse with places eight and six. In 2014 they prevailed against Germany in the final. The following year they were in the final again, but had to admit defeat Hungary . In 2016 and 2017 they no longer took part in the competition.
