The Spanish men's national volleyball team is a selection of the best Spanish players who represent the Real Federación Española de Voleibol in international tournaments and internationals.
history
World Championship
Spain took part in the volleyball world championship for the first time in 1998 and finished eighth. In 2002 it was only enough for 13th place. The Spaniards could not qualify for the 2006 World Cup .
Olympic games
In 1992 in Barcelona , Spain took eighth place as hosts. In the 2000 Games , there was a ninth place. The reigning European champion could not qualify for Beijing 2008 .
European Championship
In the first participations in the European volleyball championship , Spain did not get past last place in 1981, 1985 and 1987. After two missed tournaments, the Spaniards finished ninth in 1993. There was a long pause. At the EM 2005, the Spaniards lost in the game for third place against Serbia and Montenegro . At the 2007 European Championship - two months after winning the Europa League - they won the title with a 3-2 win against Russia .
World cup
Spain has been to the World Cup twice so far . In 1999 there was sixth place, in 2007 it was fifth.
World league
Spain was represented in the world league from 1995 to 2004 without interruption. In the first four years there were placements between seven and ten. In 1999 the Spaniards finished fifth. After two weaker years, they repeated this success in 2002 and 2003. After seventh place in 2004, Spain said goodbye for three years. When they returned in 2008 , they ranked 13th.
European League
After ten participations in the world league, the Spaniards played in the European league from 2005 to 2007 . They finished third in 2005 and sixth in 2006 . Spain won the competition in 2007 with a 3-2 win in the final against Portugal. After the Spaniards skipped the competition in 2008 due to their participation in the World League, the team reached the final again in 2009 and 2010 , where Germany and Portugal were defeated.
