The Spanish men's roller hockey national team ( Spanish Selección masculina de hockey sobre patines de España ) is a selection of Spanish players in the sport of roller hockey (Spanish hockey sobre patines ). It represents the Real Federación Española de Patinaje (RFEP, Royal Spanish Roller Sports Association) at international level, for example at world championships , European championships and the Nations Cup .

history

The Spaniards played their first official international match on May 17, 1947 in the course of the World Cup in Lisbon against Switzerland, the match ended with a 2-1 victory for the Iberians, who ultimately ended the tournament in third place behind Portugal and Belgium. The first world and European championship title (from 1939 to 1956, both titles were awarded in one tournament) succeeded just four years later in his home town of Barcelona . Since then, Spain has developed into one of the dominant nations in roller hockey and is the record winner at world championships with 16 gold medals (as of June 2014). In addition, the selection won the European Championships 16 times , making it the most successful national team in Spain in a team sport, both after World Cup and European Championship titles. The team has also celebrated 16 victories at the prestigious Nations Cup in Montreux , Switzerland .

At the 1992 Olympic Games in Barcelona , roller hockey was a demonstration sport , the Spaniards reached the final, but lost to Argentina 6-8.
