history

In Spain, rugby of seven has long been widespread, especially in amateur tournaments across the country. Sevens rugby received a boost when it was included in the 2016 Olympic Games program . As in fifteen-a-side rugby , the women's national team is more successful than the men 's in rugby seven . Spain's women qualified for the first ever Women 's Rugby Sevens World Cup , held in Dubai in 2009 . Although Spain won the preliminary group, they had to admit defeat to South Africa in the quarter-finals and finally finished seventh. At the European Championships the title was won both in 2003, with a 21:12 final victory over France, and in 2010, with a 28:12 victory over the Dutch women, in 2005, 2009, 2011 and 2012 the Spanish women finished second behind England and 2007 they secured the bronze medal with a 10-0 win in the game for third place against Wales.
