history
In 888 Lunel was raised to a barony for 13 localities. At the turn of the millennium it belonged to Bernard d'Anduze, baron de Sauve, to whom it ceded to Gaucelm, Lord of Lunel. In the 12th and 13th centuries, the Lunel Jewish community flourished and produced numerous scholars.
In 1632, after the Peace of Alès , the fortifications were demolished. A century later, in 1728, a canal began to connect Lunel to the sea.
