Poussan ( Occitan : Poçan ) is a French commune in the Hérault department in the Occitanie region . It has 5972 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) and belongs to the arrondissement of Montpellier and the canton of Mèze . The inhabitants are called "Poussannais" .
geography
Poussan is located on the northern edge of the Gardiolemassiv above the Étang de Thau and about 17 kilometers southwest of Montpellier . Poussan is surrounded by the neighboring communities of Montbazin in the north and northeast, Gigean in the east, Balaruc-le-Vieux in the southeast, Bouzigues in the south, Loupian in the southwest and Villeveyrac in the west.
The A9 car route runs through the municipality .
Poussan is located in the Vin de pays des Collines de la Moure wine region .

As a Celtic oppidum , Poussan was not an insignificant place early on and was located on the Via Domitia.
