Gigean is a municipality in the department of Herault in the region Occitan in southern France . It has 6,426 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) and belongs to the arrondissement of Montpellier and the canton of Frontignan . The inhabitants are called "Gigeannais" .
geography
Gigean is located on the northern edge of the Gardiole massif between the Mour Hills about 18 kilometers southwest of Montpellier . Gigean is surrounded by the neighboring communities Cournonsec in the north, Fabrègues in the northeast, Vic-la-Gardiole in the east, Frontignan in the southeast, Balaruc-le-Vieux in the south and southwest, Poussan in the west and Montbazin in the northwest.
The A9 car route runs through the municipality .
Gigean is located in the Vin de pays des Collines de la Moure wine region .
