August Joseph (since 1896 von ) Doerr (born July 29, 1846 in Frankfurt am Main , † August 21, 1921 in Smilkau ) was a genealogist , heraldist , landowner and farmer .

biography

Doerr was the son of Karl Georg Doerr (1814–1888) and Louise Likawetz. At the age of twenty he left his home in Frankfurt with his parents and became a Swiss citizen. As early as 1870 he turned to Bohemia , where his father bought the allodial estate Smilkau - about 60 km from Prague . In addition to the management of his estate, on which he set up model farms since 1870, he devoted himself to genealogical and heraldic research.

On November 24, 1877, he married Rosa Comploir in Vienna , from which marriage a son and daughter sprang.

In the field of genealogy, he dealt with the Austrian aristocratic families , especially the area of ​​the Bohemian crown lands , and put on a comprehensive collection of notes with genealogical data. Outstanding is the publication of the work The Aristocracy of the Bohemian Crown Lands, a directory of those coats of arms and aristocratic diplomas which are entered in the Bohemian hall books of the aristocratic archives in the Imperial and Royal Ministry of the Interior in Vienna , Prague 1900. He also published the complete work Genealogical Source Material on the History of the Austrian Nobility 1927–1934.

He was a member of the scientific heraldic-genealogical associations "Adler" in Vienna and "Herold" in Berlin. In 1906 he presented the letters of nobility and coats of arms issued by the Philosophical Faculty of the University of Vienna on the basis of the Palatinate , and from 1911–1916 he dealt in several essays in the monthly newspaper of the "Adler" from the awards of nobility and coats of arms, which were sealed by the Reichshof Chancellery were.

1925 acquired Prince Jaroslav von Thun and Hohenstein (1864-1929) the estate, which in the princely archive of the family until 1945 Thun and Hohenstein on Decin Castle was kept and then in the State Regional Archives Litoměřice came.
