Jimmy Bennington (* 22. May 1970 in Columbus , Ohio ) is an American jazz - drummer .

Live and act

Bennington grew up in Detroit ; In 1979 his family moved to Houston . He first learned the clarinet before switching to drums at the age of 14. During his high school years he played in marching and concert bands, as a sideman and led his own group. His career began in the Texan jazz and blues scene with musicians such as Kinney Abair , Tex Allen and GT Hogan . During this time Malcolm Pinson became a friend and mentor; In addition, from 1995 he had lessons with Elvin Jones , for whom he worked as a band manager and drum technician on his tours from 2000-02. During his career he also played with Perry Robinson , Renée Baker , David Haney , Jim Baker , Steve Cohn , Pete Drungle , Julian Priester , Michael Vlatkovich , Jeb Bishop , Daniel Carter , Bert Wilson , John Gross , Fred Jackson , Josh Berman , Demian Richardson , John Stowell , Ava Mendoza and Ed Schuller . In the field of jazz he was involved in 12 recording sessions between 1996 and 2012. Bennington is currently leading the formation Color and Sound , with saxophonists Fred Jackson, Artie Black , Dustin Laurenzi and Mike Harmon (double bass).
