Kinney Abair
Kinney Abair (actually Herman William Kindy , born October 16, 1938 in Refugio , Refugio County , † February 15, 2003 ) was an American musician ( guitar , vocals ) and songwriter of the Texas blues , who was active in the Houston area .
Abair moved from his hometown of Refugio to Houston at the beginning of his career, where he has performed since then. He mostly performed his own compositions or well-known songs by Lightnin 'Hopkins , with whom he was friends. In his songs he also processed influences from Motown , jazz and rhythm & blues. With Ed Muth he wrote the play Third Ward Griot , which Lightnin 'Hopkins paid tribute to. He has also worked on recordings for Sonny Terry ( Mr. Rockefeller ) and Philippe LeJeune ( Live Blue Moon Houston , Black & Blue); he also performed with local jazz musicians such as trumpeter Howard Harris.
