Fred Jackson

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Fred Jackson (* 1929 ) was an American saxophonist (alto and tenor saxophone) of rhythm and blues and soul jazz .

Jackson played in rhythm and blues bands such as the Paul Williams Orchestra in the late 1940s , and then with Little Richard from 1951 to 1953 . In the late 1950s he toured with Lloyd Price . In 1961 he recorded with BB King . He gained fame through his participation in the soul jazz sessions of the Blue Note label at Baby Face Willette and Big John Patton . The recording with Willette impressed Alfred Lion of Blue Note, who enabled him to make a record. In 1962 the album Hootin 'n Tootin' was created under his own name on Blue Note, where he brought in band colleagues from his time with Price (Willie Jones guitar, Earl Van Dyke piano / organ, Wilbert Hogan drums). Another session a few months later was not released by Blue Note and only appeared as bonus tracks for a reissue of Hootin and Tootin 1998. No new recordings have been made since the mid-1960s.
