Marsillargues ( Occitan Marsilhargues ) is a French commune with 6,248 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the Hérault department in the Occitanie region . It belongs to the arrondissement of Montpellier and the canton of Lunel . The inhabitants are called Marsillarguois .
geography
Marsillargues is the easternmost commune of the Hérault department. It lies on the border with the Gard department , which is formed by the Vidourle river , and has a small portion of the lagoon lake Étang de l'Or (also called Étang de Mauguio ). The western boundary of the municipality is the Canal de Lunel , a small waterway from the lagoon to the city of Lunel. Marsillargues is surrounded by the neighboring municipalities of Lunel in the north, Aimargues in the northeast, Saint-Laurent-d'Aigouze in the east, Aigues-Mortes in the south and Lansargues and Saint-Nazaire-de-Pézan in the west.
