Saint-Jean-de-Védas ( Occitan : Sant-Joan-de-Vedats ) is a French commune with 10,008 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the Hérault department in the Occitania region ; it belongs to the arrondissement of Montpellier and the canton of Lattes . The inhabitants are called Védasiens .

Saint-Jean-de-Védas is located on the Massif de la Gardiole in the southwest of Montpellier . A few kilometers to the southeast is the Golfe du Lion (Mediterranean Sea).

Neighboring municipalities of Saint-Jean-de-Védas are Montpellier in the north and northeast, Lattes in the east, Villeneuve-lès-Maguelone , Fabrègues in the southwest, Saussan in the west and Lavérune in the northwest.

Saint-Jean-de-Védas is part of the Vin de pays des Collines de la Moure wine region .
