Oppidum de la Roque

Fabrègues ( Occitan : Fabregas ) is a commune in the Hérault department in the Occitanie region of France . It has 7035 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) and belongs to the arrondissement of Montpellier and the canton of Pignan . The inhabitants are called Fabrèguois .

geography

Fabrègues is located about twelve kilometers southwest of Montpellier at the foot of the Gardiolemassiv, an extension of the Provencal-Pyrenees chain. The river Mosson , into which the small tributary Coulazou flows, limits the municipality in the northeast. Fabrègues is surrounded by the neighboring communities of Saussan in the north, Saint-Jean-de-Védas in the northeast, Villeneuve-lès-Maguelone in the east, Mireval and Vic-la-Gardiole in the southeast, Gigean in the south and southwest, Cournonsec in the southwest, Cournonterral in the West as well as Pignan in the northwest.

Fabrègues is part of the Vin de pays des Collines de la Moure wine region .

The A9 car route runs through the municipality .

Attractions

On the plateau above the village of Fabrègues are the remains of the so-called Oppidums de la Roque, a Celtic settlement, this place has been registered as a Monument historique since 1960 .
