Flower garland from the Gottorf Codex

Holtzbecker became known for his flower pictures. He created on behalf of Duke Friedrich III. von Schleswig-Holstein-Gottorf from 1649 to 1659 the Gottorfer Codex , a four-volume plant atlas, and is therefore handed down in the books of the Gottorfer Rentekammer from 1654, 1655, 1659 and 1660. In 1660 Holtzbecker published the Anckelmann Florilegium on the plants in the garden of Hamburg's senior elder and Senator Caspar Anckelmann (1634–1698). The Moller-Florilegium , another five folios with flower pictures, was created for the Hamburg mayor Barthold Moller , who headed the Hanseatic city from 1643 to 1667. Of the three volumes by Moller that are still known to have been preserved, two are in the Hamburg State and University Library and another in the Oak Spring Garden Library in Upperville (Virginia) . A third Florilegium , the Green Florilegium (formerly called the Husum Florilegium ), is, like the Gottorfer Codex , owned by the Danish state in Copenhagen.
